We believe in a society that values creativity, imagination and expression. We believe the arts generate growth and tourism. We believe the arts enhance our reputation. We believe the arts enrich our lives. We believe in the value of the arts.
The National Campaign for the Arts ensures that the arts are on local and national government agendas and are recognized as a vital part of contemporary Irish life.
Our new year resolutions
Our priority areas of work for the first quarter of 2012 include:
- Structure - to establish and implement our new National Steering Committee.
- Fundraising - to start our major fundraising drive. We aim to raise €300,000 over three years to resource and amplify the campaign. (We will publish a full budget breakdown in the next few weeks). Expect to hear from us soon or donate now.
- Research - to complete the research undertaken by John Knell and Anne Bonnar, commissioned by Senator Fiach Mac Conghail on behalf of the NCFA. This is to help us articulate the value of the arts in Ireland in our own terms, augmenting and going beyond the commonly used economic arguments.
- Lobbying - to meet the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht. To prioritise local government lobbying, whilst keeping a watchful eye on developments within the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. To offer training to local groups (funding dependent).
- Communications - In response to your recommendations we will to develop a media and communications plan. Amongst other things, it will include activities to refresh the website and make it a more effective resource and look at mounting a public engagement campaign.
Lobbying presentations
A presentation we prepared for the City and County Managers Association is available here. This is a good one to use and adapt if you're lobbying local authority figures.
A more general NCFA presentation is available here. Again, it can be locally nuanced. A pdf of briefing notes, which accompany the presentation, is also available here.
