Detailed breakdown of Arts funding in Budget 2010
We started it but you did it. You flash mobbed, organised local meetings, signed the petition, made films, and most importantly you wrote and met your politicians. You have helped the arts in Ireland. Thank you.
We achieved a lot in short time. The worst of the proposals in the McCarthy Report have been avoided today.
Here’s the initial news about the Budget and the arts:
- Both the Film Board and Culture Ireland have not been abolished, or merged with another entity.
- The Arts Council budget next year is €69 million, a cut of 5.6%. This is a lot less than we had feared and is testament to the efforts of everyone in the campaign.
However, because the Arts Council’s budget was cut in the supplementary budget in March, but they opted not to pass on this cut mid year, we understand they spent approximately €2.4 million of the 2010 grant in 2009. This means they will have approximately €6.5 million less to spend in 2010. This will have a significant impact on artists and arts organisations.

Well done on the Campaign!! A small relief. Many that work with passion in the Arts may be able to keep busy and vibrant, make a small living and stay off the dole queue.

I will try your suggestions. I have been using Google adwords and Yahoo search marketing to advertise Supra Shoes and have found that the keyword traffic is very expensive, but results in actual click-throughs, whereas the content match Supra Footwear can burn through you daily budget with many clicks, but no actual click-throughs. I know there are click-fraud lawsuits pending, but Supra Sneakers seems like something is still not right.

I then started looking into using a Mac as an HTPC HTMac, the hardware is attractive and whisper quiet, and the software available is pretty amazing. I chose to go with a Mac Mini over an AppleTV as it provided more possibilities. I ended up finding a Mac Mini on craigslist for $500, which is close to what I would have paid for the various pieces of hardware to build a custom HTPC. We now have a full fledged Mac computer hooked up to our TV, complete with everything you’d find on a normal computer including Web Browser, Instant Messenger, and Games.
